Our History
President Dolf DeRovira, a flavor chemist since 1972, founded Flavor Dynamics, Inc. in 1989. With a strong reputation in the flavor industry, Dolf felt the need to strike out on his own – “I had worked within the industry for a long time, and as my career progressed, I had opinions about how a flavor company should operate. I could run an innovative, professional enterprise more effectively than the competition and institute policies based on my observations.”
With just five employees, several of whom remain to this day, Dolf DeRovira set up shop in a small plant in Somerset, New Jersey. Making a quick splash in the industry with its popular beverage and savory flavorings, the company had outgrown its original plant within three years. By 1999, Flavor Dynamics was bursting beyond the limitations of its second plant and moved to its present location in South Plainfield, New Jersey. Flavor Dynamics’ facility includes the entire operation: research and development, production, quality control, sales, and customer service.
Education is at the core of our company. Our team members have held prestigious posts within several trade organizations, including the Society of Flavor Chemists, the Chemical Sources Association, the Specialty Coffee Association of America, and the Research Chefs Association. Flavor Dynamics impacts the future of the flavor industry through our educational and technological tools and professional seminars such as Seminar on Sensory Evaluation, Rutgers University Continuing Education Program, Culinology 101, Parts 1-4, Rutgers University Continuing Education Program, Flavors: Their Creation, Definitions, and Use, at the Center for Professional Advancement, and Introduction to Flavors: Food and Flavor Seminars, in Newark, NJ, Chicago, Il and Los Angeles, CA.
